Project Showcase

  • Hytro Movement Analysis Dissertation

Researched how structural differences in blood flow restriction devices influence cycling and running kinematics using 3D motion capture. Developed and analyzed kinematic waveforms in Python with statistical parametric mapping to assess biomechanical impacts.

  • Modeling and Predicting Cycling Performance

Collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to model key cycling performance factors including aerobic/anaerobic capacity, rolling resistance, and aerodynamic drag. Built a Python-based predictive model that estimated velodrome lap times with less than 5% error, validated through experimental data and research reporting.

  • The Padel Patch: a HEAD Design Challenge

Challenged by HEAD to inspire the growth of padel tennis, I worked in a small team, utilizing the Double Diamond process to design a carbon fiber racket repair patch. Guided by player insights and refined through SolidWorks modeling and iterative prototyping, our concept was pitched directly to the client.

  • Lacoste: Magnetic Tracking of Foot Movement

Partnered with Lacoste to develop, test, and validate a magnetic field tracking system for in-shoe motion analysis. Utilized Python and advanced sports measurement tools to assess tracking accuracy and movement dynamics.

  • England & Wales Cricket Board: Modeling Cricket Ball Flight

Developed a trajectory model of cricket ball flight during power hitting using fluid dynamics and impact modeling. Implemented simulations in Excel and Python to better understand aerodynamic behavior.

  • Labosport: Surface Testing Dissertation

Collected football pitch surface data with novel measurement devices. Analyzed mechanical readings to evaluate potential biomechanical implications for athletes.

  • Labosport: Innovation Marketplace Design Challenge

Designed and pitched a mobile app and measurement system combining IMU sensor data with player feedback to assess surface hardness. Presented concept as part of the Alliance for Sports Engineering Education’s international innovation program.

  • Complex vs Compound Training Study

Investigated the effects of plyometric-resistance training combination sequences on lower-limb power output. Collected performance metrics using force platforms, jump tests, and squat assessments pre- and post-intervention.

  • Integration of Team–Player Identity in Youth Football

Explored how aligning team and player values improves motivation and retention in youth football. Conducted creative training interventions and interviews to assess team dynamics and cohesion.

  • Focus of Attention in Motor Learning of Disc Golf Putting

Researched how internal vs. external focus of attention impacts motor learning. Ran field-based training and performance testing with beginner groups to evaluate learning outcomes.

  • Blinded vs Non-Blinded Exertion in Cyclists

Examined how visual feedback influences functional threshold power tests in trained cyclists. Employed a repeated-measures design on ergometers to compare performance under blinded and non-blinded conditions.

  • Career-Ending Injuries and Athlete Identity

Analyzed how career-ending injuries affect the identity of elite athletes through qualitative interviews and thematic coding, revealing psychological and social impacts of forced retirement.
